'As an inspirational or motivational speaker, Hattie's story is second to none'
Sally Ann Reynolds - entrepreneur
Hatice and Mehmet
At the age of three I was known to the local police because I repeatedly ran away from home, but at the age of 18 that running was for real. I ran to avoid an arranged marriage. When my dad came and found me I literally feared for my life…
I became a teacher, then to gain more control of my life I learned about controlling water, training to become a plumber. My search for self-definition took me into self-employment; I didn’t realise I was a pioneer. Eventually in my search for a way to leave an imprint and legacy, I found entrepreneurship and started the world’s only national company of self-employed women plumbers and the only national event for women in that industry, creating a community where none had existed.
Being recognised in the New Year’s Honours list 2020 with an MBE for Services to Women in the Heating and Plumbing Industry is the beginning of a new chapter.
I haven’t finished yet…
